Do’s & Don’ts for a Walt Disney World Vacation

From picking out the perfect hotel, to booking nearly impossible dining reservations, to figuring out park hopper tickets and fast pass times, planning a vacation at the most magical place on earth can be not only overwhelming, but stressful as well. However, there are ways to make planning this trip easier. Thanks to the advancements in technology, one could plan their entire vacation online, all while doing their research on various webpages at the same time.

Here are some helpful tips, and some do’s and don’ts in planning a Walt Disney World vacation!

Do: Plan, Plan, and Plan. This is a major DO, especially now with the MyMagic+ process, including FastPass+ and MagicBands. Figure out which parks have the extra magic hours, and plan accordingly. This will help with making dining reservations as well.

Don’t: Overdo it. Believe it or not, there is such thing as overdoing the parks, especially during the summer heat. Make sure to take breaks, and head back to the hotel for a quick refreshing dip in the pool. It’s easy to get burnt out on a Disney vacation, and sometimes it won’t even feel like a vacation at all.

Do: Be early. It’s important to arrive everywhere you go early, instead of late. This includes park openings, fast pass attractions, and dining reservations. You want to make sure you give yourself plenty of time to be where you need to be, when you need to be there. It’s easy to lose track of time when you are having fun.

Don’t: Take the Ferry Boat. These are a trap. The lines for them are never all that long, and for good reason. It’s slow, and you are better off waiting in line for another way of transportation that will get you from point a to b much faster.

Do: Comfortable clothing, ESPECIALLY shoes. Yes, as important as it is to look cute in the parks because you will be taking all of those pictures, it’s MORE important to be comfortable, especially with your shoes. You WILL be doing a ton of walking in the parks, so make sure your feet are comfortable. It will be such a bummer if your day gets cut short because of uncomfortable shoes.

Don’t: Try to do everything in one day. It’s hard to plan one day at Magic Kingdom because there is simply so much to do. Make sure to plan an extra day, maybe somewhere in the middle of the vacation, as a free day. That way, you can relax during your Magic Kingdom day, and do whatever you may be missing first thing on your extra day!

Do: HAVE FUN! That’s the most important part. Don’t stress, just have a good time. If you do all the planning ahead of time, then all you have to do on vacation is enjoy the magic.

Great tips. I always feel stressed when I see people in Disney World who are constantly going and running to attractions. Going slow and steady in the parks for years, I’ve come to appreciate some of the smaller details the parks have to offer, like the talking phone booths in Tomorrowland or the relaxing charm of the People Mover (TTA).
