For a coffee addict and lover like myself, the news of Starbucks entering the Walt Disney World parks had me buzzing (literally!) I think the idea is genius, considering many people who venture into the parks are there at the wee hours of the morning to avoid heavy crowds, and caffeine is definitely not a want but a need. Starting your busy and long day in the parks with one of Starbuck’s many beloved iced beverages sounds like perfection to me.
Starbucks has been placed at Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and newest addition at Hollywood Studios. Each Starbucks, although remaining loyal to the original menu, have themes to coincide with that of the surrounding areas in the Park. I think this idea is spectacular. However, some people are upset because where the Starbucks location was placed in Magic Kingdom, Main Street U.S.A, does not accurately portray what was actually present during the turn of the century. I see how Starbucks, in a way, could be a bit disruptive, but the Starbucks was modeled to match the theme. Walt Disney said himself that the parks “are something that will never be finished. Something that I can keep developing and adding to.” Sure, Starbucks was not around in the early 20th century, but it is today. Starbucks is one of the most popular companies to sell coffee, and I believe that allowing people to start their days off with their usual coffee order is not going to disrupt the world of imagination that Walt Disney created.
On a side note, each Starbucks location in the various parks just released their very own park themed mug in the “You Are Here” collection. I’m hoping to snag one of these before they are gone!
